The Adverse Childhood Experiences Study
The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study is one of the largest investigations ever conducted to assess associations between childhood maltreatment and later-life health and well-being. The study is a collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Kaiser Permanente's Health Appraisal Clinic in San Diego.

DNA Is Not Destiny: How the Outside Gets Under the Skin
The genes we are born with don't change, but the setting of the epigenome- and what the gene actual does, changes-- especially during periods of gestation, the early years and the onset of puberty

Education Matters-Are We Crazy About Our Kids?
Early Childhood Education is the education theory dealing with young children (both formally and informally) from infant to school age. Science shows that a child's experiences during the early years are vital to building the foundation for future success-in school and in life. Now economists are studying the costs and benefits of high-quality care and preschool. We fear we are spending too little where it matters most.

Publicly Funded Early Learning Programs
- The Effectiveness of Early Childhood Development Programs A Systematic Review Publicly funded, center-based, comprehensive early childhood development programs are a community resource that promotes the well-being of young children. Programs such as Head Start are designed to close the gap in readiness to learn between poor children and their more economically advantaged peers. Systematic reviews of the scientific literature demonstrate effectiveness of these programs in preventing developmental delay, as assessed by reductions in retention in grade and placement in special education.
