In late 2017, private prison company CoreCivic submitted a proposal to Elkhart County to build an immigrant detention facility on some open land near the Elkhart County jail. The proposal garnered swift opposition and groups organized protests and social media campaigns against the plan. On January 22nd, CoreCivic withdrew their proposal. Our guests join us to talk about the proposal, public reaction, immigration issues, and the way Elkhart county residents engaged in a productive dialogue with their county commissioners.
