Dinner & A Book
Gail Martin
During twenty-two years of hosting and producing Dinner and a Book Gail Martin's sense of adventure and focus on civic problems has led to her choice of guests and books on series. She and Alfred Guillaume have highlighted the literature and cuisine of Louisiana, the last book being A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines which has impacted viewers. Kathy Freese leads the way in her choice of superb books on American history such as First Friends, Rebecca Kubacki's suggestions share her family's life experiences; and Gail and Bill Firstenberger feature well known Indiana writers such as Theodore Dreiser, Kurt Vonnegut, Booth Tarkington, Lew Wallace Ernie Pyle and many more.
This year Gail's choices continue to focus on international literature such as The Memoirs of Stockholm Sven by Nathaniel Ian Miller and Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro with guest Doug Farmwald, Jane Poe's focus on American writers such as Ernest Hemmingway and Nathaniel Hawthorn as well as Eric Garton's love of outdoor gardens.
"For me, Dinner and a Book is a life adventure, a culmination of my history, my travels to parts unknown and my life experiences."
