OPEN STUDIO returns for its tenth season as WNIT’s signature production to spotlight the arts, entertainment and fine dining in Michiana. Hosts Mark Durocher and Jaimee Thirion take a fascinating look at our unique corner of the world as only public television can do.

MARK DUROCHER
Mark Durocher hails from Taylor, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, and started his broadcast career in 1981 with the Fetzer Broadcasting Company. Mark began as their night-time host, then moved up to morning show host and eventually to Program Director. During the mid-1980’s he made stops at radio stations in Lansing, Ann Arbor and Detroit before coming to South Bend and the WNDU family of stations in 1989.

Mark hosted the morning show at WNDU from 1989 to 1999 and moved into its management before embarking on a second career in Marketing and Development at the Family & Children’s Center in Mishawaka. Mark also served as a program director and morning show host for the now-defunct Magic 95.7 with the Federated Media radio group.

Mark has hosted WNIT’s “Auction” and “Open Studio” programs for several years as well as moderating a special WNIT series, “Finding God in Evolution.” He brings a wealth of talent and experience to our station, mixing humor, insight, and enthusiasm in his interviews and announcing. He is the proud father of a young son and daughter.

JAIMEE THIRION
Newspaper, radio and TV, Jaimee Thirion has been involved with each one throughout her college and professional careers. Originally from Concord, Ohio just 25 miles east of Cleveland Jaimee has moved across the country working in various media positions. Upon graduation from Ohio University with a BS in Broadcast Journalism, her first professional job was in Rockford, Illinois. She worked as an overnight producer and fill-in reporter at WTVO-TV. She then realized weather was the route to go. She figured, where else can you be wrong half the time and still get paid! So she packed her bags and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana to become the weekend weather anchor and weekday reporter for KSLA-TV. She also went back to school to become a Meteorologist through the Broadcasting Meteorology Program via correspondence at Mississippi State University. She graduated from the university in 2003, but has never been to the state of Mississippi!

In 2001 Jaimee moved back up north to South Bend, Indiana to become the weekend weather anchor and weekday reporter at WSJV-TV. She covered many events including the local elections where she met her current boss, St. Joseph County Sheriff Frank Canarecci. As the spokesperson for the St. Joseph County Police Department she is now on the other side of the camera being interviewed instead of doing the interviewing. She also helps promote county police programs like D.A.R.E. and Do The Right Thing.

Jaimee likes being outdoors, playing basketball and reading. Currently she's working on her own fictional book.
