Craig Gibson will be filling in, for Mark Durocher, as host for tonight's Open Studio!

Her business, Reu-dot-lyn - Gifts from the Heart, is named after her parents, Reuben and Dorothy. Linda Thomas, a fused glass artist, states that her parents are her inspiration for her success. She first started making glass beads as a way of therapy when her mother was in the hospital and that path continued into fused glass jewelry, a piece of art that is wearable. No two pieces of her wire wrapped jewelry are the same and each piece is unique in design. You can see Linda at the Chesterton European market, which opens up at the end of May.

This week's Vickers Review is a film that originally came out 25 years ago and was directed by Ridley Scott. The movie, "Blade Runner", takes place in Los Angeles in the year 2019. Harrison Ford stars as a retired police assassin, or blade runner, that has been re-commissioned to terminate "replicants" or humanoids.

The 25th anniversary digitally remastered definitive Final Cut by Scott was released late last year so make sure you check out "Blade Runner" on DVD.

We are in the WNIT kitchen with Rachel Shenk from Rachel's Bread in Goshen. She is preparing homemade Focaccia bread with a tapenade filling, Brie cheese and mushrooms. A sandwich that will make you long for the warmer days of spring or summer. Stop by Rachel's Bread and pick one up for yourself or make the following recipe at home!

Dough for Focaccia bread

  • 2 1⁄2 cups water
  • 2 Tbsp. yeast
  • 1 1⁄2 tsp. salt
  • 6 cups flour
  • Stir the yeast into the warm water. Let it sit until it bubbles and add 4 cups of flour and beat well, until stringy. Dissolve the salt in 1 Tbsp. water and add to dough. Add remaining 2 cups of flour as needed, until dough is no longer stick and can be kneaded until smooth. Let it sit, covered with a damp cloth, until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour. Punch down and let it rise again for 45 minutes. Shape dough as desired and bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes.

    Tapenade filling

  • 2 cups onions, sliced in thin rings
  • 1-cup sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1⁄2 cup pitted kalamata or other dark olives
  • 1⁄4 cup olive oil
  • Fry the onions in olive oil on a medium heat, stirring frequently, until they get nice and brown and caramelized, about 20-30 minutes. While the onions are frying, soak the sun-dried tomatoes in boiling water to soften. Put onions, drained tomatoes and olives in a blender or food processor and chop until semi-smooth. Add tomato water, if desired.

Spread the tapenade on the focaccia bread on both sides along with slices of Brie cheese and fresh mushrooms. This recipe will make enough tapenade for 8 sandwiches.
